The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. -Martin Luther King Jr.
I’m an ardent supporter of UNRWA USA, an organization doing lifesaving work in Gaza, which is why I was baffled to see this image on LinkedIn, knowing that this “leadership” includes support of Israel and its genocide in Gaza, the Greater Israel project, and the destructive and senseless war against Iran on behalf of… Israel. In the larger scheme of things, it would seem that “U.S. Global Leadership” and “UNRWA” mix like oil and water. (Yes, I get it. Maybe’s it’s part of a strategy to curry official favor and ensure support. That dog don’t hunt, in my world view.)
Hasn’t the world had enough of “U.S. Global Leadership”? A resounding “God, yes” is the answer I hear from most of people and countries. The mask is off of the US empire. That’s the good news in the midst of global death and destruction. The cultural mythology that’s been so powerful and so persuasive for so long, hoodwinking generation after generation. thanks to a slick and pervasive propaganda machine, is being dismantled brick by brick. The world is quickly and prudently moving in a multilateral direction away from the most notorious gangster states of our era.
As many of us predicted, Dear Leader simply accelerated a process that was set in motion years ago by both major political parties and the US elite behind them. It is painful, tragic, and inevitable. In an 8 May 2026 article entitled America’s Suicide Pact, Chris Hedges writes, “Civilizations, as the historian Arnold J. Toynbee famously argued, ‘die from suicide, not by murder.’ They collapse from within. They fall prey to moral, social and spiritual decay. They are seized by a parasitic ruling class. Democratic institutions seize up. The citizenry is immiserated, wealth is funneled upwards to the ruling class and coercion is the principle form of control.” I haven’t found a more accurate description of the current state of affairs.
