While recently shopping for flowers, I noticed this old woman, bamboo cane in one hand and broom in the other, sweeping up around her family’s business. My guess is that she’s in her mid to late 80s, perhaps even 90s. I was reminded of Dick Van Dyke’s 2016 memoir Keep Moving, something I encouraged my mother to keep doing before she passed away last May at 98. Find something you enjoy and can do every day.
Does this woman have to be doing this? Probably not but it’s probably something she’s done for decades and it no doubt gives her life meaning. She and others like her are an inspiration to me. Each new day is a gift and we all need to stay active physically and mentally, regardless of our age, but it’s obviously more important the older we get. Keep moving!
