Charitable Causes in Vietnam: Part I

A Partial List for Foreigners

Foreign friends and colleagues with an interest in Vietnam sometimes ask me which non-profit organizations are worth supporting. Since they are usually interested in a tax deduction, that narrows the list. The organizations listed below are registered charities in different countries.

Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation

Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation is a charitably funded non-governmental organization based in Hanoi, Vietnam. Its mission is to help children escape from crisis by offering a range of services including rescue from sex trafficking, forced labor, and slavery, and by providing shelter, education, and employment. It’s a registered charity in Australia, the USA, the UK, New Zealand and Germany.

Kianh Foundation

The Kianh Foundation is a UK-Vietnam registered NGO providing a wide range of high-quality services to children with special needs in the Central region of Vietnam. It provides training to other organizations working in the field and supports parents to understand and work with their children. Its special school in Quang Nam Province works with 80-100 children at any one time. The Kianh Foundation School is a non-profit and runs on donations.

Project Renew

Project RENEW was founded in August 2001 by the government of Quang Tri Province and international NGOs to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by cluster bombs and other munitions remaining in Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam, since the war ended in 1975. Today, Project RENEW’s primary partner is Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), one of the most respected international organizations in the field of humanitarian disarmament.  Tax-deductible contributions to support Project RENEW’s work in Vietnam are accepted by Friends of Project RENEW, Inc. (FPR), an independent U.S. charitable organization.

Let me know if you’d like to make a donation or provide some other kind of support to one or more of these organizations, and I’ll put you in touch with the right person. I’ll continue adding to this list and probably create a dedicated page on the blog.
