What’s eliciting such widespread condemnation of Ben Gvir is that he publicly abused people from the countries that provide the military, financial and political support that Israel needs to survive. The government that Ben Gvir is an minister in already has killed well over 100,000 people in Gaza and is daily causing incomprehensible suffering to 2 million more. Israel has killed thousands in Lebanon and annihilated dozens of entire towns and villages. Israel provoked the U.S. to launch an attack on Iran that has thrown the entire global economy into chaos. None of that is much of a concern. Ben Gvir slapping around a few people from Israel’s patron countries is what has brought forth all this condemnation. That is what Carney (Canadian prime minister) finally spoke up about and Anand called the Israeli ambassador in an unbelievable attempt to demonstrate that our government has any moral principles at all. And that is why liberal Zionists and Israel supporters of all stripes are outdoing each other expressing how upset they are at Ben Gvir. I’ve been painfully aware since the beginning of this genocide in Gaza that only military force will stop Israel from its bloodstained pursuit of the regional land grab known as the Greater Israel project (Eretz Yisrael). Since that is not in the cards and the suffering continues unabated, here’s a more feasible idea. Form a multinational peacekeeping force to enter Gaza, a sovereign territory of Palestine. Countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Ireland, South Africa, Spain, and Vietnam come to mind.

Break the siege and begin helping the people who don’t have enough food or water, and are living in the most horrendous conditions. Take control of the key checkpoints and allow aid workers, healthcare workers, and journalists to enter. Begin the long-term process of reconstruction.

As much I admire their work, respect their courage, and cheered them on as Israeli speedboats closed in, the Global Sumud Flotilla is a largely symbolic effort to break the siege and deliver aid to the people of Gaza. Israel’s reaction was predictable. Act like pirates, violate international law, seize the boats, and abuse the activists before deporting them. Why? Because it’s been allowed to act with impunity so far. The difference between a fleet of sailboats with unarmed activists and a peacekeeping force is that soldiers who comprise the latter would have weapons and be prepared to defend themselves.

What’s Israel going to do – declare war on all of the participating countries? It’s already the most hated country on Earth and the hundreds of millions of dollars spent hasbara (הַסְבָּרָה) have been unable to paper over a live-streamed and extensively documented genocide.

This is the least the world can do for the people of Gaza.

لقد كنتُ مدركًا بشكلٍ مؤلم منذ بداية هذه الإبادة الجماعية في غزة أن القوة العسكرية وحدها هي التي ستوقف إسرائيل عن سعيها الملطخ بالدماء نحو مشروع الاستيلاء الإقليمي المعروف بمشروع “إسرائيل الكبرى” (إيرتس يسرائيل). وبما أن ذلك ليس مطروحًا في الوقت الراهن، بينما يستمرّ العذاب بلا توقف، فإليكم فكرة أكثر قابلية للتنفيذ: تشكيل قوة حفظ سلام متعددة الجنسيات للدخول إلى غزة، وهي أرض فلسطينية ذات سيادة. تتبادر إلى الذهن دول مثل ماليزيا، وإندونيسيا، وأيرلندا، وجنوب أفريقيا، وإسبانيا، وفيتنام.

اكسروا الحصار وابدأوا بمساعدة الناس الذين لا يملكون ما يكفي من الطعام أو الماء، ويعيشون في أكثر الظروف رعبًا. تولوا السيطرة على نقاط التفتيش الرئيسية، واسمحوا لعمّال الإغاثة والعاملين في الرعاية الصحية والصحفيين بالدخول. وابدأوا عملية إعادة الإعمار طويلة الأمد.

وبقدر ما أُعجب بعملهم، وأحترم شجاعتهم، وقد شجعتهم عندما كانت القوارب الإسرائيلية تقترب منهم، فإن أسطول الصمود العالمي يُعد في معظمه جهدًا رمزيًا لكسر الحصار وإيصال المساعدات إلى أهل غزة. كان رد فعل إسرائيل متوقعًا: التصرف كقراصنة، وانتهاك القانون الدولي، والاستيلاء على القوارب، وإساءة معاملة الناشطين قبل ترحيلهم. لماذا؟ لأنه سُمح لها حتى الآن بالتصرف من دون أي محاسبة. الفرق بين أسطول من القوارب الشراعية التي تقل ناشطين غير مسلحين، وبين قوة حفظ سلام، هو أن الجنود الذين يشكلون الأخيرة سيكونون مسلحين ومستعدين للدفاع عن أنفسهم.

ماذا ستفعل إسرائيل؟ هل ستعلن الحرب على جميع الدول المشاركة؟ إنها بالفعل الدولة الأكثر كراهية على وجه الأرض، ومئات الملايين من الدولارات التي أُنفقت على الدعاية الإسرائيلية (الهسبراه) لم تتمكن من التغطية على إبادة جماعية تُبث مباشرة أمام العالم.

هذا أقل ما يمكن للعالم أن يفعله من أجل أهل غزة.
