“Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief.”

This composite Talmud excerpt is both a comfort and a challenge. It’s well worth reading from time to time. It conjures up a sense of community now and throughout history. If more people took this sentiment to heart and truly lived it, the world would be a much better place.

  1. “And so, to those tempted by despair, I say: Remind yourself that the world is what we make it, and that to the making of it each one of us can contribute something. This thought makes hope possible: and in this hope, though life will still be painful, it will be no longer purposeless.”
